Trivandrum: The 17th National Conference on e-Governance, to be held on January 30-31, 2014 in Kochi, will be a platform for Kerala to showcase its achievements in e-Governance. Minister for Industries & IT, Shri P K Kunhalikutty disclosed this at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram to announce the event.
In his remarks, the Minister said it’s a big honour and recognition for Kerala to host the National Conference on e-Governance. “We will use this as an opportunity to showcase some of our award winning e-Governance projects like Akshaya, e-District, e-Procurement, etc. Implementation of these projects have helped us curb bureaucratic inefficiency and corruption to a large extent but a lot more needs to be done for completely eliminating it. We are on our way to be a developed and completely digital State and as of now, we are India’s most e-ready State”, he added.
Giving details of the sessions, K S Sreenivas IAS, Secretary (Industries & IT) said, “Some of the best and top IT companies like Microsoft, Accenture, Intel, Infosys, Wipro & Cisco, and organisations like NASSCOM, would present papers during the two day conference which would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy. The conference with its theme ‘Vision to implementation’ will explore emerging opportunities and address new challenges in e-Governance being implemented by the Central and different State Governments.
P Bala Kiran IAS, Director, Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) said, “Kerala is hosting the National Conference on e-Governance for the second time. The 8th edition was held in Kochi in 2006. Till now, we have received about 700 registrations and we expect this to reach 1,000 by the last date on January 24. We have confirmed participation from all States and Union Territories. IT Secretaries and IT Ministers from several States would also be attending the conference, which would help us share the best practices with each other. Kerala Governor Shri Nikhil Kumar would give away the prestigious National e-Governance Awards for 2013 on this occasion”.
The conference is joint organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Government of India; Department of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India and the Department of IT, Government of Kerala. KSITM is the organising agency and Nasscom is the knowledge partner.
