Toonz to venture into films, branding & merchandising business


Trivandrum: Toonz, the Technopark based animation company will venture into animation character based toys, their branding and merchandising business. The company will also be getting into the Malayalam movie production business as producers and in the creative side.

This was disclosed by P Jayakumar, CEO of Toonz Group, while interacting with the media at a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram to announce the ‘Indian Animation Masters Summit’ to be organised here on April 25-26 as part of their 15th anniversary celebrations.

Giving details, Jayakumar said, “The company will be venturing into the animation character based toys, their branding and merchandising business, and the first toy to be launched will be Louie, which will be centred around the character Louie, the Voyager and his pals. We have completed the prototype of this toy which is integrated with artificial intelligence, location and temperature sensors, among other things. We expect to get this into the market by October, in time for the Christmas sales.”

We are also getting into producing commercial films in Malayalam, handling both production and the creative. It’s not that we are moving away from our core competency areas, but we are giving more value addition into animation. We have come a long way since we started in 1999”, he added.

The Indian Animation Masters Summit will be inaugurated by the National Award winning cine actor Sri. Suraj Venjaramoodu and will be graced by the cream of Indian animation industry. The event is the newer version of the prestigious event of yester years ‘Week with the Masters’ organized by Toonz Animation India for five years from 1999.

The summit will be attended by 13 masters of Indian Animation Industry – Devdutt Pattanaik, Ajit Rao, Dhimant Vyas, Sanjiv Waeerkar, Nina Sabnani, Prosenjit Ganguly, Gitanjali Rao, Shekhar Mukherjee, Chetan Sharma, Vaibhav Kumaresh, Manisha Mohan, Gayatri Rao and Ranjit Singh Tony.

Hari Varma, Chief Creative Officer, Toonz and other senior executives of the company were also present on the occasion.
