Kerala to organise Young Entrepreneurs Summit in September

Trivandrum: Kerala Chief Minister, Shri Oommen Chandy today formally announced the Young Entrepreneurs Summit (YES), Kerala’s flagship event to establish Kerala as a vibrant Entrepreneurial State, in the presence of Shri P K Kunhalikutty, Minister for Industries & IT, at a function in Thiruvananthapuram.

YES is being organized by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), the premier industrial and investment promotion agency of the State government. The Summit will be held on September 12, 2014, at Kochi, in association with Technopark Technology Business Incubation Centre (T-TBI), Technopark, Infopark, KINFRA, Start Up Village, TiE Kerala and CII.

Launching the YES logo, the Chief Minister said, “The Young Entrepreneurs Summit is one of the navaratna programmes under the Mission 676 announced by the UDF Government. We have great expectations from YES as it’s a step towards emerging from Kerala with in Kerala.”

He also stated that Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme is a unique initiative launched two years back by the Kerala Government and has received overwhelming response from the youth of Kerala. Government also decided to observe September 12 every year as Kerala Entrepreneurship Day, and YES is being planned as a flagship event to mark this year’s Kerala Entrepreneurship Day.

The Industries Minister said that the objective of this event was to instil an entrepreneurial mind set in the youth of Kerala; and that the event should be viewed as the commencement of a journey, and not an end in itself. KSIDC and the other agencies in the State would accordingly endeavour to reposition themselves to facilitate the new paradigm sought to be ushered into the State through this flagship initiative.

In her opening remarks, Aruna Sunderarajan IAS, ACS & MD of KSIDC said, “This initiative is aimed at establishing Kerala as an entrepreneurial destination for not just IT but for about 20 different sectors. Kerala will send out the message that we are welcoming entrepreneurs from all across the country to set up base here. To achieve this goal, KSIDC will set up two entrepreneur facilitation centres and also launch a venture capital fund. We are targeting about 5,000 startups in the next 3-4 years.”

The event will showcase the existing facilities and support services available to prospective young entrepreneurs to realize their business dreams.
