Oommen Chandy crosses half million likes on Facebook


Trivandrum: The official Facebook page of Kerala Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy (https://www.facebook.com/oommenchandy.official) has reached a new milestone with over half-million likes. At the time of writing this article, his page had 5,03,967 likes.

According to a press release from the CM’s office, Oommen Chandy is now one among the 20 popular Indian politicians and five Chief Ministers who are active on the social networking site, Facebook. In Kerala, he is the undisputed leader now on Facebook with the maximum number of followers among politicians. On second and third positions are Shashi Tharoor, MP with 2,36,502 likes and Ramesh Chennithala with 1,98,059 likes.

Among the Congress leaders at the national level, the Kerala Chief Minister leads with regard to the number of followers on the top. He is followed by the former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh with 4,63,054 likes and former UIDAI Chairman & Infosys CEO, Nandan Nilekani in the third position with 3,90,817 likes.

As per the Facebook page insights, about 40 per cent of the followers are NRIs, basically Keralaites working or settled overseas. Location wise, Dubai has the largest number of followers in the age group 18 to 34 years.

The most popular post on the page is the one featuring his meeting with Sachin Tendulkar during the latter’s visit to the State, with over 10 lakh views.

The Facebook page gives very detailed information about the Chief Minister and his achievements. The About page has a timeline has all the important milestones in his political career starting from becoming the President of All Kerala Balajana Sakhyam in 1961 to the Chief Minister of Kerala in 2011.
