Kannur Technolodge to take forward Kerala’s IT entrepreneurship


Trivandrum: Unlocking a wide spectrum of opportunities for start-ups and innovators in the IT / ITeS sector in Kerala, a new facility has started functioning under the name Kannur Technolodge at the Thavakkara Bus Terminal, also called Kannur Central Bus Terminal Complex, in Kannur.

The Kannur Technolodge aims to provide infrastructure, technical support and guidance to IT entrepreneurs in the northern part of Kerala; and enable them to develop as well as market new products and services. The project was initiated by an IT company named Kannur Central.

The Kannur Technolodge which currently has facilities for 25 Technology Business Incubation Offices has High Speed Internet and 24 hours power back-up, and is expected to synergize across existing IT ecosystem, consumers and the Government, to create job opportunities for IT literate youth in the State.

According to K P K Nambiar , CEO of Kannur Technolodge, the Technolodge will enable ITES, BPO, Software Development and Software Testing start-ups to develop and operate their products and services at low costs. It will also facilitate start-ups to avail financial support and assistance provided under various government schemes for new entrepreneurs.

A Technolodge is a small IT park established by the Kerala Government in a small town or a village in the State. Technolodges constitute the third tier of the IT infrastructure. The main objective of Technolodge is to encourage ITeS and BPO companies to operate from low cost rural centres and thereby to create employment in rural areas. The Technolodge concept is being overseen by Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Ltd. (KSITIL).

S Ramnath, MD of KSITL said, “Other IT facilities including Cyberpark in Kozhikode, Technopark and Technology Business Incubation Centre in Thiruvananthapuram will provide support to project management to the companies functioning in Technolodges,

KSITIL is the apex company formed under Government of Kerala’s IT Policy for pioneering the development of IT / ITeS Special Economic Zones (SEZs), IT Townships and IT Parks across the State.
