Trivandrum: IT exports from Kerala have crossed Rs. 10,000 crores during 2014-15. This was announced by the Minister for Industries & IT, Shri P K Kunhalikutty in the Legislative Assembly (Niyamasabha) while replying to the discussion on demands for grants for 2015-16.
The Minister said that the IT exports from the State grew by Rs. 5,100 crores, an increase of 21 percent and was expected to cross the Rs. 15,000 crore mark during this financial year. “Kerala was registering a growth of 25-30 percent in the IT sector as compared to the national growth rate of 15 percent. Infopark, Kochi contributed Rs.3,150 crores in exports.”
He also disclosed that while 47,100 persons were employed in the IT industry in Kerala so far, another 50,000 new job opportunities would be created in the next three years.
As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, a landmark building would be constructed in the Phase I of the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram. The foundation stone for the same would be laid by the end of this month.
The Minister announced that Start-ups established as part of the entrepreneurship promotion programme was a great success. The Technology Innovation Zone is being set up on 13 acres of land at Kalamassery. The construction of a 4.25 lakh sq. ft. building is in progress and would house about 3,000 start-ups.
