T-TBI’s Kochi Innovation Lab to go on stream on Tuesday


Tvm: Effecting a giant leap as part of its ‘I am an Entrepreneur’ campaign kicked off a few months ago, the Technopark Technology Business Incubator (T-TBI) is all set to kick off a new venture in Kochi.

Christened ‘Innovation Lab’, the all-new venture is being developed as an Extension Centre of Technopark TBI, KCC Nair, CFO and Programme Co-ordinator (New Initiatives), Trivandrum Technopark, told keralaitnews.com.  “Technopark TBI has envisaged this initiative as a PPP Model Centre, in association with Technofirst Group, with an aim to promote, develop and nurture entrepreneurship,” he said. Innovation Lab would be the first of its kind in India promising a brilliant opportunity for innovative ideas to flourish and the perfect platform for innovative thinkers to establish their products, it has been pointed out.

A significant feature that the Innovation Lab would boast of is that it would go on stream with the support of other TBIs, Entrepreneurial Promoting Organisations in Kerala, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. “The team at Innovation lab would host a pool of angel investors, VCs, technology advisors, mentors and management teams to promote and manage all possible aspects of a budding startup. The Innovation Lab is undoubtedly the best combination of every flavour for a startup to grow into the next big thing,” he added.

The Innovation Lab will also provide consultation, product support and product formation assistance. Meanwhile, the Innovation Lab Fund would provides seed money to serve as catalyst and vehicle to promote development in the field of technology for the budding entrepreneurs. Eminent personalities such as Larry Farrell, the international authority on entrepreneurship and CEO of The Farell Company, the world’s leading firm in teaching and researching entrepreneurial activities, would be part of the venture.  

 Planned as pre-incubation centre, start ups from this pre-incubator can later on move to Technopark TBI or the Telecom Innovation Hub TBI at Infopark, Koratty. Post-graduation from the incubators, start-ups can move to any of the IT parks coming up across s the state, Nair added.

KCC Nair said the Innovation Lab will go on stream on December 15, 2009 at an event to be attended by H K Mittal, Head of The Department of Science and Technology; Dr. A S Rao, former Head, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research; Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark; Binu Pazhoor, CEO, Cyber Park Kozhikode; Yathish G from  Nasscom; Arifa Khan, CEO, Genius Incubator, the UK and Kris Nair, ED, Opdrage Ventures, New Delhi, among others.
