Trissur: The Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi is hosting the second edition of the International Theatre Festival of Kerala from December 20 – 29, 2009 at Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala with the focal theme of the year ‘Afro-Asian Theatre’.
According to the organiser, this Afro-Asian Theatre festival may be a first of its kind in Asia, to give a common platform to people of India and African continent. In the festival, theatre of South Africa, Kenya, Pakistan and India will be showcased along with some of the regional plays under Malayalam Theatre Panorama. A few seminar sessions are also planned where theatre veterans like Ratan Thiyam, Naseeruddin Shah, Dr. Anuradha Kapur (Director, NSD), Dr. Suresh Kumar (African studies, Delhi University), Leslie Rodriegs, Actor Madhu, Shahid Nadeem (Amnesty International, UK), Dr. Mark Flieshman (University of Capetown), Keith Pearson (Kenya) will be presenting their thoughts on different topics related to theatre and allied arts. As part of the festival, the KSNA will also be displaying some of the finest moments of Indian Theatre, works of Habib Tanvir & Badal Sircar and Traditional Theatre of Kerala in exhibitions being organised during the festival.
