New avatar for Kudumbashree website


Tvm: Kudumbashree, the state government’s poverty eradication initiative through women’s Self Help Groups has launched their new website.

The website was inaugurated by the State Minister for Local Self Government Shri Paloli Mohammed Kutty on December 30, 2009. Speaking after the launch, the Minister said, “This new website will help the Kudumbashree community to share their experiences with others and thus take forward their mission”.

Dr. Prabhat Patnaik, Vice Chairman, State Planning Board said that no other organisation would epitomise women’s empowerment like Kudumbashree, “This is a unique and imaginative project that exits anywhere especially as a Self Help Group”. He applauded the organisation’s initiative to be involved in the food security programme of the state and in his view, this held important implications for the state. He also said this website will go a long way in spreading this news to the world.

Dr. K Narayanan Nair, Director, Centre for Development Studies stressed on the need to have a mechanism to update and authenticate the website content to maintain credibility. He asked the Kudumbashree members to take advantage of the cyber space to reach out and capture new markets for their products, which traditionally has been a challenge for them.

K T Kunjimohammed, Director, Kudumbasree said, “In the past three years, Kudumbashree has been undergoing many changes in its organisational set up and activities. The site has been designed in a way to reflect Kudumbashree’s new image”. Ms. Sharada Muraleedharan IAS, Executive Director, Kudumbashree introduced the new website and explained the salient features. A new bilingual community portal, Sthree Shakti, would also be launched soon to cater to the local SHGs and community centres of Kudumbashree.

Talking to Kerala IT News, Smt. R Parvathi Devi, PRO, Kudumbashree told that this is a major IT initiative on the part of Kudumbashree to reach out to people and inform others about the good work that these women do. Kudumbashree has changed the life of many women in Kerala.

Launched by the Government of Kerala in 1998 for wiping out absolute poverty from the State through concerted community action under the leadership of Local Self Governments, Kudumbashree is today one of the largest women-empowering projects in the country. The programme has 37 lakh members and covers more than 50% of the households in Kerala. Built around three critical components, micro credit, entrepreneurship and empowerment, the Kudumbashree initiative has today succeeded in addressing the basic needs of the less privileged women, thus providing them a more dignified life and a better future.

The website is very comprehensive and has details about the different projects and acitivities of Kudumbashree. The new website has been designed & developed by Saasvaap Techies Pvt. Ltd. based in Trivandrum.
