IT@School Awards


Tvm: The 3rd IT Awards for schools which have implemented the IT@School Project in the State, for the year 2008 – 09, have been announced.

The Govt. Moyan Model Girls H S School, Palakkad got the Education Minister’s Awards for the best School Computer Lab in the Government school category while KPES H School at Kayakodi in Kozhikode District got the award in the Aided school category. The awards carry prize money of Rs.2.5 lakhs each. The Govt. Tribal H S School at Poomala in Idukki District got a Special Jury Award of Rs.1.5 lakhs.

Wayanad got the award for Best Educational district in IT initiatives. Government High Schools and Aided High Schools in the Revenue District levels also got the Minister’s Award for the best School Computer Lab with a prize money of Rs.15,000 each. All the winners will also get a trophy and a citation.

The awards were declared by the State Education Minister Shri M A Baby and Anwar Sadat, Director, IT@School on January 06, 2010.  These awards would be given away on January 20, 2010 during the State School IT Mela to be held in Technopark, Trivandrum on January 20 – 21.

The Director of Public Instruction had invited applications for the awards instituted by the Education Department. The selection of the best computer lab was done on the basis of some parameters like computer – student ratio; implementation of schemes to promote free software in schools; use of ancillary facilities like Internet, Edusat – ViCTERS, Digital Library, use of multimedia and the percentage of teachers imparting IT Enabled Education in classrooms, among others. The nominations were evaluated at the State level by a committee comprising of Director of Public Instruction; Director, SCERT; Director, SSA; Director, IT Mission and Director, SIET.
