Kozhikode: As the Kerala School Kalolsavam gets off to a start here today, the 50th edition of the school fest is going hi-tech in many ways.
When over 8,000 students from about 12,000 schools across the State will compete in 216 events in a mind boggling array of art forms over the next seven nights and days, the Kalolsavam would see the introduction of a new Festival and Fair Management software system. Designed and developed by the e-governance team of the IT@School project, the event management system will automate the backend process of the festival.
Anvar Sadath, Executive Director, IT@School says, “The entire process of the festival, from the entry of a contest participant to the printing of certificates, will be done at the click of a mouse. The system has a web interface also which will make the process transparent”. The system built on Free Software will make life easy for the managers of the festival. The organisers expect the number of complaints to come down. Starting from the data entry which includes school registration, participants’ registration and remitting of fees has been automated. Every school and every student has an identification number. The tabulation and score sheets for the judges are also system generated.
Allocation of stages and time slot for each item is done by the system. The list of participants of each event can be viewed online. It also automates the rank list generation process. The software has already shown excellent results with the competitions in 162 sub-districts over. Kerala School Kalotsavam is a festival unique in its structure and organisation. It is a Kaleidoscope of Kerala’s young talent in the field of Art and Literature.
