All set for Infopark Cherthala work


Alappuzha: Infopark Kochi, the promoters of Infopark at Cherthala, has completed the tender formalities for setting up the 2.4 lakh sq.ft. building in the first phase of the project. In a release from Kerala IT, Dr. Ajay Kumar IAS, Principal Secretary (IT) said that Rs. 100 crores was the indicative investment earmarked through partnership model for the development of the first phase.

The park is expected to generate about 1,500 employment opportunities by 2011 on completion of first phase. An investment of Rs. 1,000 crores is expected for the development of the entire park with exports worth Rs. 1,200 crores envisaged when completed and fully functional, he added.


The infrastructure development works already underway include construction of compound wall as per SEZ standards, internal roads, cable trenches, drainage, landscaping, 110 kV – 20 MVA substation, state-of-the-art power distribution system using underground cables and Ring Main Units (RMU), sump and overhead tank for water storage and distribution and sewage treatment plants.


Siddhartha Bhattacharya, CEO, Infopark said, “We are in the process of completing the tender formalities for the 2.4  lakh sq.ft IT  building part of which  will be  plug and play and incubation facility as part of the first phase. We intend to build the IT building using the green building concept in order to maximise energy saving with minimum disturbance to the existing terrain”.

The State Government has identified 66 acres of land at Chennam- Pallipuram village for the park (10 km away from NH-47 and around 30 km away from Vyttila, Ernakulam). The Union Government has already issued SEZ notification to 60 acres of land. 10 acres of land will be developed as commercial space. Once the Infopark Cherthala and Infopark Ambalapuzha are fully functional, Allepey district of Kerala will get a huge face lift where IT will blend with nature and make the district a very prominent IT & Tourism destination. It will also help to tap the uniform talent distribution spread across the state, infrastructure and supporting IT platforms such as telecom, datacom and Optic Fibre networks.
