French film fest: Feb 6 – 27


Tvm: The Alliance Française in association with the Embassy of France in India and the Film Lovers Cultural Association (FILCA) is organising a festival of French films titled ‘Spice of Life’ at Alliance Française de Trivandrum from February 6 – 27, 2010.


The festival which is open to the public will screen four films, all at 4.30 pm. These films showcase modern-day fables about French society. The films take a close-up view of the pain, the frustration, the enthusiasm and the hopes of young people; where the power of friendship and love forms life-long bonds.

WESH WESH /2002/ 86 ‘/ Rabah Ameur-Zaimeche (Feb 6)

Kamel, a young man from the french ghetto, near Paris, is coming back to France. He was arrested for dealing drugs, he spent five years in jail and was banned from France for two years. He tries, with his family’s support, to find a job and live a normal life. But nothing’s normal in the ghetto.

ZIM & CO /2005/ 86 ‘/ Pierre Jolivet (Feb 13)

After a banal motorbike accident, twenty-year-old Zim must find a proper job if he wants to avoid prison. He’s got a gang of great buddies – Cheb, Arthur and Safia – who are ready to do anything, or almost, to keep him out of jail. It is an uplifting and emotional movie about resourcefulness and solidarity. It gives a message full of hope, showing how the powerful link that unites three boys can make them overcome obstacles.

When you come down from Heaven / QUAND TU DESCENDRAS DU CIEL /2003/ 93’/Eric Guirado (Feb 20)

Jerome has just arrived from his farm where there was not enough work. He’s hired by the town hall  to clean out the town centre of its homeless people and tramps during the Christmas period. Whereas most of his “colleagues” accept this disgusting work, it is not long before he takes a rebel stand, abetted by a young female journalist.

Neighbours /VOISINS VOISINES /2005/ 86 ‘/Malik Chibane (Feb 27)

A rap musician finds inspiration right on his doorstep, in the often comic struggles of his neighbors in the Mozart Estate housing project, he sets the stage for a lively hip-hop fable, set to the beat of the banlieues. Voisins, Voisines’ is a movie about how the vision of an artist brings beauty and meaning to the lives of his entourage.
