Tvm: As part of the Mashable World Social Media Day celebrations on June 30, social media users in Trivandrum organised a meetup in the city yesterday. Around 25 people, mostly techies, who are very active on the social media, got together to be part of the celebrations that was held in more than 600 cities across 93 countries.
As per Mashable, Social Media Day is to acknowledge and celebrate the revolution of media becoming social. A day that honours the technological and societal advancements that have allowed us to have a dialogue, to connect and to engage not only the creators of media, but perhaps more importantly, one another. It’s a day to celebrate the changes in media that have empowered us to stay connected to information in real time, the tools that have enabled us to communicate from miles apart, and the platforms that have given a voice to the voiceless and victims of protest injustice.
The meetup at Trivandrum started with a video from Pete Cashmore, CEO, Mashable presenting the idea behind Social Media Day. This was followed by interactive sessions on ‘Social Media and Development’ by Ajay Prasad, VP, Trivandrum Development Front and ‘Social Media and Social Life’ by Srijith V.
According to Jujith John, one of the organisers here, the meetup was a big success and probably the best meetup to be held in Trivandrum. This sentiment was echoed by several participants in their tweets. Those who could not attend joined the event through live streaming and chat.
