Tvm: The World Green Building Week celebrations at the Technopark in Trivandrum came to a close today. Various activities to create awareness about the need for Green Buildings were organised in Technopark during September 20-26, 2010, which has been declared as the World Green Building Week 2010. The highlight of the celebrations was the Seminar on Green Building which was held on September 23, 2010.
The Seminar on Green Building saw around hundred delegates from diverse fields attending the programme which included faculty members and students from College of Engineering, Trivandrum and TKM College of Engineering, Kollam; representatives from several IT Companies in Technopark and practicing Architects and Engineers from implementation partners of Technopark.
In his presentation on Green Building, Dr. R. Harikumar, Energy Technologist, Energy Management Centre of Kerala said, “Green buildings can help save 55% of building and operational costs.” He added that Green Building Technology is one innovation which adopts energy conservation measures thereby making it eco-friendly. Dr. Harikumar also stressed upon the social responsibility of each individual for energy conservation.
Earlier, in his inaugural address, Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark announced that Technopark is in the process of bringing all its upcoming infrastructure developments under Green Building footprint. The Technopark Phase III would see one of India’s largest green IT buildings with a total built up area of one million sq.ft.
A member of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and an active promoter of Green Building Concepts, Technopark organised these programmes to propagate the importance of green building in conserving energy and preserving environment. Green building also ensures enhanced working environment.
