In his speech, the Governor said, “Kerala is expected to cross the One Billion Dollar mark in exports in the IT sector during the current year. The targeted investment has also gone up to Rs.10,000 crores. Our IT@School has won international honour for innovative IT projects from the Stockholm Challenge Awards, 2010. The support of technology in improving the efficacy of the public redressal mechanism may be fully tapped”.
According to the IT Department, IT exports from Kerala would register a growth in excess of 60 per cent this financial year from the figure of last year. If the trend continues, the State will be able to create two lakh direct employments in the IT sector in another five to six years compared to 40,000 – 45,000 people that the industry employs at present. In the past few years, the State had been growing by two to three times the national growth average of IT exports and now almost touched two per cent of the national IT export basket.
Mervin Alexander, CEO of Technopark Trivandrum and Binu Koshy, COO & Centre Head of Ernst & Young Global Shared Services Centre in Technopark were among those present on the occasion.
