e-District project to be extended across Kerala: IT Minister

Tvm: Kerala Government’s flagship e-governance programme, the e-District project, will be extended to cover all the 14 districts in Kerala. This was announced by the Minister for Industries & IT, Shri P K Kunhalikutty at the valedictory function of the Akshaya Day celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram today. At present, the e-District project covers only two districts, Palakkad and Kannur, where it was launched in 2010. The minister also gave away the awards to the best performing Akshaya entrepreneurs on this occasion.

In his address the Minister said, “Akshaya has come a long way since its inception ten years back. The e-District project which is being implemented through Akshaya will open up tremendous possibilities. Akshaya is a pioneer in this field and will take up consultancy services for other states and ever countries that are looking at Akshaya as a role model. This is a project of the future, which will help make Kerala a knowledge society.” The Minister also added that the Government will look into the issues being faced by the Akshaya entrepreneurs and if required, will go out of the way to address them.

K S Srinivas IAS, Sp. Secretary (IT), GoK said that Akshaya has successfully implemented the unique concept of Citizen Service Centres (CSC) across Kerala while adding that Akshaya is trying to get permission from other departments to increase the number of services available at CSCs. In the last one year there has been an increase in the number of G2C services available for citizens and correspondingly, revenue for entrepreneurs.

The ten day long Akshaya Day celebrations concluded today with the e-Governance services award distribution by A Shahjahan IAS, Director, Kerala State IT Mission. The winners are Abdul Salam from Malappuram for e-Pay services, Saji Kumar S from Trivandrum for e-Ticketing services, Archana G S from Trivandrum for e-Grants services, Anand T A from Kollam for KNRK scheme, Rajesh K from Kasargod for ration card services, Sweety L from Trivandrum for CHIAK enrolment and Jimmy Joseph from Wayanad for Intel Learn scheme. For UID enrolment, the joint winners were Wayanad and Pathanamthitta Districts.
