Register online for Disaster Risk Reduction & Contingency Planning workshop

Tvm: The website and online registration facility for the forthcoming International Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction & Contingency Planning was inaugurated today by the Minister for Revenue & Disaster Management, Shri Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. The workshop to be held on March 9-10, 2012 in Thiruvananthapuram is being organised by the Department of Revenue & Disaster Management, Government of Kerala, Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, Centre for Earth Science Studies and the Institute of Land and Disaster Management.

Interacting with the media, the Minister said, “The ultimate aim of the workshop will be to derive a suggestive framework for mainstreaming and institutionalising disaster risk reduction practices through systematic, scientific and continuous contingency planning which could be a role model in the country for comprehensive disaster risk reduction policy formulation, governance strategy formulation, planning and implementation supported by scientific inputs. The workshop will also foster sharing of knowledge on best practices from across the country and elsewhere in the world related to community based disaster risk reduction.”

An exhibition will also be held from March 4-10 at the same venue. The objective of the exhibition is to reach out to all sections of the community, to educate them on the need for disaster risk reduction and to impress upon them the need for a change in mindset which will equip them better to deal with disasters. The exhibition is conceived as a unique learning opportunity for the participants and the visitors alike and a common platform where they can share their insights, experiences and expectations.
