WEF selects Development Channel promoter as ‘Young Global Leader’


New Delhi: Binoy Job, promoter of ‘Development Channel’, the largest Development news portal and now a senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office, has been selected as a ‘Young Global Leader’ by the Geneva based World Economic Forum (WEF) for being instrumental in using media for social change. Binoy is among 11 Indians selected as ‘Young Global Leaders’ this year by WEF.

With his Development media initiatives, ‘Television For Social Change’, ‘Development Channel’ and Institute for Community media, rural reporting and Development Journalism (i-CORD) along with his vast experience in NDTV, Binoy is the first professional from Development Communication and Television to be inducted into the PMO two years back and he established the first of its kind Media Production Centre there to disseminate information faster through print, broadcast and social media.

A very successful serial social entrepreneur with a dozen social ventures, his ‘Development Channel’ (developmentchannel.org) is the largest Development news portal in the world with more than 2,000 stories to its credit. The portal was established in 2006.

Binoy, who hails from Kainakary in Alappuzha District in Kerala, began his schooling in Kerala and went on to study Journalism at Delhi University and Leadership & Globalisation at London School of Economics (LSE).

The list of ‘Young Global Leaders’ comprises of a critical mass of dynamic individuals and exceptional young leaders, all under the age of 40, who will impact global affairs over the coming decades and share a commitment to making the world a better place. Some of the eminent personalities who were honoured in the past include Larry Page of Google, Sidhartha Lal of Eicher group, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and politicians Sachin Pilot, Deepinder Hooda and Jyotiradita Scindia.
