CII Kerala to set up Centre of Excellence on Entrepreneurship & Innovation


Tvm: CII Kerala is going to establish a national Centre of Excellence on Entrepreneurship & Innovation for MSMEs in Kerala. This was announced by V K Mathews, Chairman, CII Kerala and also Executive Chairman, IBS Software, after the second Kerala State Council meeting of CII in Trivandrum today.  CII Kerala will publish an ‘Entrepreneurs Book’ showcasing successful entrepreneurs from the State.

Interacting with the media, C J George, Vice Chairman, CII Kerala and also MD, Geojit BNP Paribas, spelt out CII Kerala’s agenda for 2012-13 and also explained the vision of CII for Kerala and the strategies to realize the vision.

Mathews said, “The proposed Centre of Excellence on Entrepreneurship & Innovation for MSMEs is being set up with an aim to develop entrepreneurship among the youths in the State. The Centre of Excellence aspires to elevate Kerala as the next emerging services hub for growth and development with a focus on IT & ITeS, Start-ups and SSIs, with a focus on technology.”

George said, “CII Kerala will publish a first of its kind ‘Entrepreneurs Book’ to showcase and highlight successful first generation entrepreneurs from the State. This would help young and budding entrepreneurs to learn from successful entrepreneurs who have made a mark. CII plans to release this book at the ‘Emerging Kerala’ event, scheduled for September 2012.”

‘Emerging Kerala’ will be the anchor event for promoting the State to the outside world and grooming Kerala into an investment destination. In fact, this year’s theme for CII Kerala is ‘Reviving Economic Growth though Emerging Kerala’. CII sees in this event to be the game changer for the socio-economic transformation of Kerala.

CII Kerala has formed ten sector-wise promotion panels for 2012-13 lead by people of eminence in their areas of operation. The activities of these panels would be driven by them. Alexander Varghese, Country Head, UST Global would lead the vertical on IT & ITeS.

Leveraging the inherent strengths of the State, the CII vision for Kerala is to make the State ‘The Finest Place to Live and Work’. To realize this vision, concerted effort will be taken in several areas, most important of them being – managing the perception of the State, promoting target industries where the State has intrinsic strengths and creating an enabling ecosystem for industrial growth.
