ITIs in Kerala set for a smart technological upgradation


Tvm: Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Kerala under the Directorate of Employment & Training, Government of Kerala, are all set for a total makeover of the course and technological upgradation. The ITI Smart Learn, Virtual Classrooms and other initiatives will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy at the Govt. Women’s ITI at Kozhikode on May 17, 2012. This was announced by the Labour Minister, Shri Shibu Baby John in Thiruvananthapuram today.

Giving details, the Minister said, “Virtual classrooms will be implemented in all 34 Government ITIs across the State. All the ITIs can be connected at the same time and the Virtual Classrooms will offer live teacher instruction and feedback on a real-time basis with voice interaction. eLearning through smart classrooms and simulation based learning process will also be introduced to make ITI courses very modern. We will also introduce biometric attendance for ITI students from the next academic year. SMS alerts will help the parents monitor the progress of their children.”

The CM will also launch a job portal ‘Skill Jobs’ and websites for all ITIs. The job portal will be an online initiative to ensure better jobs for skilled trained professionals from ITIs in Kerala. Candidates can register on the portal for free and employers can also access the database for free.

As part of the modernisation process, Modular Employable Skills through Vocational Training Providers will offer 1,158 Courses under selected 65 sectors like automotive repair, banking, accounting, hospitality, IT & ITES, to name a few. Keltron is the implementing agency for the virtual classroom system at a cost of Rs.2.3 crores.
