IIITM-K wins eWorld 2012 Award for Localised Content application


Trivandrum: The Technopark, Trivandrum based Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K) has won the eWorld2012 Best Jury Award in the Best Initiative for Localized Application / Content developed as part of Right to Information portal developed for the Govt of Kerala’s Institute of Management in Government (IMG).

The eWorld Forum is a premier global conference organised annually to discuss innovative ICT solutions on governance from India and abroad in the field of e-Governance, Education and Health. The eWorld 2012 Awards recognise excellence in adoption of technology in the processes of governance, and also showcase noteworthy innovations towards this end. The awards are aimed at encouraging continued use of technology for solving the problems of governance, and for making government more responsive, effective and citizen oriented.

The Award was received by the Dr. Elizabeth Sherly, Director, IIITM-K from R Chandarsekhar IAS, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Government of India on June 15, 2012 at the eWorld2012 Forum Conference held in New Delhi, along with Rajeev R R, Sr. Computer Scientist of the Computational Linguistics project at IIITMK.

According to the Citation for the Award, “India’s first state level Right to Information (RTI) portal with a knowledge hub and e-learning content has been developed by IIITM-K. The portal offers innovative online collaboration opportunities and an expert system for clearing RTI issues. The e-Learning and on-line certification on RTI is available both in English and Malayalam”.

Since its launch, twelve batches have been successfully conducted online, through which 989 have enrolled for the admission for online certification. 173 have taken the online certification.
