Kollam: After successful deployment in more than 2,000 higher educational institutions across the country, Amrita University’s indigenously developed e-learning platform A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World) is now making its foray into schools. A-VIEW will be officially launched for schools in Maharashtra on January 4, 2013 at Amrita Vidyalayam at Nigdi in Pune.

A-VIEW is currently popular in Higher Education; several Universities such as IIT-Bombay, IIIT-Hyderabad, Mumbai University, JNTU Hyderabad and others conduct regular online classes, seminars, workshops and meetings via A-VIEW.  For schools, A-VIEW will be used to provide coaching classes for entrance / scholarship exams and class subjects.

In a release, Prof. Kamal Bijlani, Director, Amrita E-Learning Research Lab, said, “For colleges, A-VIEW was successfully used to train around 14,000 teachers online simultaneously across India. The scalability of A-VIEW can be effectively used for addressing the shortage of teachers in schools”.

President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee had dedicated the latest version of A-VIEW to the nation for higher educational institutions in November 2012 as part of the ‘Train the Trainer Program’ by IIT Bombay.

A-VIEW runs on Windows, Mac, iOS platform, Android Phones and Tablets including Aakash, thus enabling learning on the move. With the help of handheld devices, students can answer the questions and teachers can receive instant feedback. By introducing A-VIEW to schools, Amrita hopes to enhance the quality of school education across India. A-VIEW is majorly supported by NME-ICT, Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, eminent computer scientist and the architect of India’s first super computer ‘Param’; Dr. Arun Nigawekar, former UGC Chairman; Indrajeet Deshmukh, Maharashtra Deputy Commissioner for Regional Development; Shridhar Salunke, Maharashtra Director for Secondary Education and Dinkar Patil, Deputy Director, MSCERT are expected to attend the A-VIEW launch.
