Trivandrum to host State School IT Mela on January 23

Trivandrum: The 11th edition of the annual Kerala State School IT Mela will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on January 23, 2013. The School IT Mela 2013 will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy in the presence of Minister for Education, Shri P K Abdu Rabb and Minster for Industries & IT, Shri P K Kunhalikutty.

Briefing the media, Abdul Nasar Kaipancherry, Executive Director, IT@School said, “About 500 students from across the State, who are the first and second prize winners of the District level school IT Mela, will participate in the State School IT Mela 2013. The IT fest is being organised as a camp for the students which will be an occasion to showcase their IT skills and also to interact with the IT industry.”

Various competitions like Digital Painting, Malayalam Typing, IT Project, Web Page Designing, Multimedia presentations and IT Quiz will be held in two separate categories for High School and Higher Secondary School students. All these competitions will be held on FOSS based softwares. There will also be two interactive sessions on Career Focus and Cyber Crime awareness as part of the IT Mela.

The Technopark in Trivandrum will host the IT Fest for the sixth consecutive year. The Park Centre and the ICFOSS Centre in the Technopark campus will be the venues for the different events and competitions.

The State School IT Mela is usually a two day event but this year, it has been curtailed to a single day as January 24 has been declared a festival holiday by the State Government. “The participating students who stay back can utilise this day for visiting the IT Companies in Technopark, if they are interested”, added Abdul. The IT@School team is organising the IT Fest for the General Education Department.
