London: Kloudpad Holdings (UK) will make £100m (Rs. 1,000 crores) investment to produce the next generation of smart watches, wearable and advanced tablets, handheld devices in South India which will create 2,500 manufacturing jobs in India.
Interacting with Kerala IT News from London, Abbishek Jayaraj Shikky, CEO, Kloudpad said, “We have already invested in regional operational facilities in the region. As part of initial plan to invest 15 crores in Kerala, we have bought new premises earlier this year in Kochi which currently houses our product design and support teams which we plan to ramp up within the next 12 months in terms of capacity. This investment alone will easily exceed Rs. 100 crores in next two years in terms of manpower, electronics testing and after sales engineering support / repair centres which is five times our initial investment commitment to the State. We already manage supply to our client base in India, Africa and GCC region from the Kochi office, but we are witnessing exponential demand in our supply situation and are proactively improving our operational capacity to cater for the same.”
Kloudpad Holdings Limited (UK) owns the ‘Kloudpad’ brand globally and oversee the UK R&D arm (Cloudsys Limited) and manufacturing operations divisions in India (Kloudpad Mobility Research Pvt. Ltd.). The group’s business focus is ‘Design in UK, Make in India’. Talks are ongoing with multiple public and private sector enterprises in India from telecom, healthcare, consumer electronics space for OEM / ODM contracts.
“The designated zone for electronics manufacturing in Kochi potential site at Kakkanad has not been facilitated yet. When enquired by the company no status was obtained as to when the zone will be active. This has caused difficulty in our plans to set up a full fledged EMS line in the state adding to the pressure from the growing market demand that prompted us to look for viable alternative like adjacent States. We are still hoping to set up additional production lines in Kerala when infrastructure and government support matures for such projects in the State”, added Abbishek.
“The bulk of the current investment outlined will happen in Chennai. We will look at scaling the business to a billion revenue with streamlined worldwide supply from the Indian production facility by 2020”, said Aromal Jayaraj Shikky, MD, Kloudpad.
