Kollam: The Centre for Cyber-Security Systems & Network, under Amrita University has launched a series of workshops to impart cyber security skills to researchers, faculties, scholars and students from across the country.
The workshops equipped the participants to tackle challenges faced by Internet users including cyber-crime, cyber-theft, ransom, harassment, bullying, etc. rapidly on the rise with increasing use of Internet and social media.
Alok Joshi, Chairman of National Technical Research Organization (NTRO) inaugurated the workshop at the Amrita University campus. In his inaugural address, he said that Cyber security is an important thrust area for India. In today’s world of crippling cyber-attacks and life style driven by gadgets, only the youth have the courage and capacity to study popular modes of cyber-attacks and develop techniques to counter them.
In his interaction with the participants, he spoke about the emerging threats and the need to strive for excellence in Cyber Security. He encouraged them not to feel let down in the event of any cyber-crime or theft or bullying, but instead promptly report the matter to authorities and play a critical role in investigating and solving the case. He requested students to help authorities to thwart such incidents.
Dr. P Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita University, said that Cyber Security education has been very effective at Amrita. He also mentioned that Amrita is closely involved with the Digital India initiative of Govt. of India and is highly committed to contributing to the Cyber Security needs of India.
Dr. Krishnashree Achuthan, Dean of PG Programmes, Amrita University said that Amrita is pioneering a unique pedagogical approach to teaching at the Centre for Cyber Security Systems & Networks in Amritapuri campus, blending theoretical and practical hands-on training as part of the curriculum resulting in excellence in Cyber Security education.
According to a press note, the workshop gave participants an overview of Cyber Security priorities and familiarized with the critical needs of our national defence and intelligence agencies in this area.
