India to be 2nd largest Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: S D Shibulal


Trivandrum: India is poised to be the second largest entrepreneurial ecosystem in the world. S D Shibulal, Infosys co-founder & also Chairman of ICT Academy of Kerala (ICTAK) said this while addressing the ICTAK Annual Summit 2015 in Thiruvananthapuram today.

In his address Shibulal said the entrepreneurs need talent with different skill sets and students are looking for entrepreneurial opportunities. “If the educational institutions could rise up to the occasion, then it’s a win-win situation for everybody. We are the large part of a global entrepreneurial ecosystem and we will soon be the second.” He further added that as industry change, skill-sets also changes. “The core IT industry will change and customers are looking for innovation. So employees should be ready for innovation and move from coding to assembly.”

V Ganapathy Subramanian, CEO of Axilor Ventures & also Director, ICTAK said, “Working as a part of Start-ups is becoming a legitimate career choice in India and in the coming years, the combined employment opportunities by Startups would be more than regular establishments. Institutions should create openings for students with rapid learning cycle and problem solving skills.”

Presenting the report for the last 18 months, Santhosh Kurup, CEO of ICTAK said, “The ICT Academy is emerging as Kerala’s best employability skills training provider. We have 72 member colleges and we have trained over 8,000 Engineering students in Kerala as part of our placement assistance programme. Another 14,000 students have also undergone short term programmes. 2,500 Teachers have attended various faculty concept coaching programmes. We have also trained 1,800 Arts and Science students partnering with Government agencies like Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) and Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP).

The ICT Academy Directors, Principals and faculty members from partner educational institutions, and CXOs from partner IT companies, later participated in an interactive session. Few member institutions also shared their experiences of working with ICTAK.

The ICTAK Awards for excelling Individuals and Member Institutions were also presented on the occasion.
