Trivandrum: The State Bank of Travancore (SBT) has partnered with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) for launching a system for online payment of electricity bills. The Online Facility for Remittance of Electricity Charges was jointly inaugurated by Jeevandas Narayan, Managing Director of SBT and M Shivasankar IAS, Chairman of KSEB at a function held in Thiruvananthapuram today.
According to a press release from SBT, the online bill payment system facilitates immediate credit of the remittance by the consumer through SBT Internet Banking free of any additional charges. This will enable consumers to pay their monthly bill without going to KSEB offices. The consumer will get confirmation of the remittance from the bank and also KSEB. The facility will be very helpful for the NRIs abroad, to pay the electricity bill of their house in Kerala, without worries of disconnection due to default of bill payment.
It was in July 2011 that KSEB first rolled out the online bill payment system. But initially, the facility was available only for High Tension and Extra High Tension (HT/EHT) customers. Later in April 2013, KSEB launched the online bill payment facility for all the consumers including the regular household (LT) consumers. The payment could be made by Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card using the Payment Gateway Site which offers secure payment facility. But system was not very popular as there were issues with the payment gateway. The new facility is expected to make the whole process convenient.
SBT Chief General Managers, E K Harikumar and S Adikesavan; and Nina, Director (Transmissions) KSEB were among those present on the occassion.
