Toonz launches first Unity Game Development & Certification programme in Kerala

Trivandrum: Toonz Animation, the Technopark-based Indian animation company, today announced the launch of Unity Game Development course and certification programme in Kerala. Toonz is the first Unity Authorised Training Centre (UATC) and Unity Authorised Certification Centre in Kerala, and only the fifth in India.

Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies and is used to develop video games for PC, consoles, mobile devices and websites. The UATC was inaugurated by Rajesh Rao, Chairman of NASSCOM Gaming Forum, at a function held in Technopark.

Briefing the media, P Jayakumar, CEO of Toonz Media Group said, “We are proud to be chosen by Unity Technologies to launch their game development programme in Kerala. The Unity authorised game development course will make the participants ready to enter into the lucrative Gaming Industry. With the rolling out of this course, locally available potential talent – Animators and Game Developers – would be able to get an edge with their expertise over the Unity Game Engine which is widely used across the world. We started the Toonz Academy in 2002 and have produced some 6,000 animation professionals so far. We will be soon starting our Games division.”

“The Gaming industry in India is seeing exponential growth thanks to the unbridled spread of Smartphones and rapid adoption of 4G with better internet speeds. I congratulate Toonz for launching the Unity Game Development course and certification programme in Kerala. This would go a long way in improving the skill sets of Game Developers here and providing more talent to the industry. We don’t have enough qualified Game Developers and the demand is more than the supply can meet”, said Rajesh.

Arvind Neelakantan, Product Evangelist, Unity Technologies (India) said, “Unity plays an important part in a booming global games market with over 40% in Games and 80% in VR. More games are made with Unity than with any other game technology. More players play games made with Unity and more developers rely on our tools and services to drive their business. We are excited to associate with Toonz to launch our Unity Game Development course and Certification programme in Kerala. We expect more creative quality content.”

“Toonz Academy, the training division of the Toonz, will conduct the nine months comprehensive programme for the first batch of 40 students who will be selected after a screening and aptitude test”, said Wg Cdr M Narayanan (Retd), ED of Toonz Academy.
