Trivandrum: The state wide roll out of the e-Payment facility across all the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) under the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) in Kerala was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram on June 10, 2013.
Prove vehicle owners can now make online payment for a range of services, including licence application, vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, fitness certificate and various renewals. This facility is now available in all the 73 RTOS in Kerala. Those without Internet connection at home would be able to utilise the services from Akshaya centres.
In his address, Chief Minister said that the government is committed to making the best use of IT in providing various services to the public thus improving the efficiency in delivering services and this is yet another example of taking the Government services to the doorsteps of the citizens.
Transport Minister Shri Aryadan Mohammed said that online services would help the MVD increase transparency while accelerating its services to public. On an average, about 45,000 transactions take place in the department every day and this online initiative will go a long way in reducing the work load on the department. Effective use of IT will also help the department to deploy more officials for field duty.
The online services of the Motor Vehicles Department were first launched in January, 2010. The MVD then started the online e-payment facility in Thiruvananthapuram city RTO in September, 2011 as a pilot project.
K Muraleedharan MLA; Trivandrum Mayor K Chandrika; P H Kurian IAS, Principal Secretary – IT and Rishi Raj Singh IPS, Transport Commissioner were among those present on the occasion.
