CM distributes CATFOSS certificates

Tvm: Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan gave away the certificates to thirteen students who have successfully completed their course at the Kochi based Centre for Advanced Training in Free and Open Source Software (CATFOSS). The certificates were given at a brief function held in the CM’s conference hall at the Secretariat in Trivandrum on July 16, 2010. CATFOSS operates out of the ITeS Habitat maintained by the Kerala State IT Mission.

Submit new Ration Card applications online

Tvm: The Civil Supplies Department of the Kerala Government has launched an online system for submission of application forms for new Ration Cards. The new system was inaugurated today by the Minister for Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Shri C Divakaran at the NIC Training Centre in Trivandrum.

HP products back in Kerala as AKITDA lifts ban

Kochi: The All Kerala IT Dealers Association has lifted the ban against HP & Redington. The ban which was in force for the last 56 days saw a complete black out of HP products from the Kerala market. Talking to Kerala IT News, Vinod Velappan, State Treasurer, AKITDA said, “HP has accepted all our demands. It’s a victory for AKITDA”.

Kerala’s m-Initiatives gets recognition at mBillionth Awards

Tvm: The mobile-based citizen services provided by Kerala State IT Mission, the nodal IT implementing agency of the Government of Kerala, have come in for recognition by the Grand Jury of the recently held mBillionth Awards South Asia 2010. The m-Governance project got a Certificate of Recognition for ‘initiating a cost effective, efficient and round-the-clock government information system’ and the Dr. SMS project (m-Health) for ‘launching a mobile-based project that delivers health-related information via SMS’.

Sasthra Univ from Thanjavur wins TechTop 2010

Tvm: The fifth edition of TechTop came to a close today with the team from Sasthra University of Thanjavur walking away with the Degree C Award and a cash prize of Rs. One Lakh for their project on ‘Production of Nano-carbon sheets from the exhaust pipies in Industries’. Jaipur Engineering College was the runner up and Cape Institute of Technology from Tirunelveli came third.

Kerala slips badly in Internet speed ranking

Bangalore: Kerala has slipped to the 9th position in the ranking of top ten Indian states with average connection speed of 750 Kbps as per Akamai's latest ‘State of the Internet Report’ for Q1, 2010. Karnataka tops this list with 1,534 Kbps. Ironically Kerala had topped the list for Q3, 2009 with an average connection speed of 1,386 Kbps. For Q4, 2009, Kerala was second with 1065 Kbps. Globally India is ranked 118 for the national average connection speed of 796 Kbps.

TechTop 2010 kicks off at Technopark

Tvm: Yet another edition of TechTop got off to a colourful start at the Park Centre in Technopark Trivandrum with the formal inauguration by the Education Minister Shri M A Baby on July 30, 2010. TechTop is a National Innovation Competition for Engineering Students across the country. TechTop 2010 is the fifth edition of this annual competition organised by Technopark and Degree Controls Inc, in an effort to locate budding techno entrepreneurs at an early stage.
