Kochi: Eight months after advertising for a Chief Executive Officer and after six months of stopgap arrangements, the Infopark has finally got a full time CEO. Gigo Joseph is the new CEO of Infoparks, Kochi and Koratty. He will also be responsible for the upcoming Infoparks at Cherthala and Ambalapuzha.
Can this be seen as a reflection of the speed at which the Department of Information Technology of the Government of Kerala works? It was in September 2010 that the IT Department advertised for a CEO after Siddhartha Bhattacharya, the then CEO resigned. He was the CEO from April 2008 and had declined a two year extension offered to him.
When Siddhartha left in November 2010, Ishita Roy, a 1991 batch IAS Officer was given the additional charge of Infopark CEO. Ishita was also the Director of the Kerala State IT Mission from October 2010 apart from the additional charge of Secretary, Environment Department, Government of Kerala. In January 2011 when Ishita opted out, as yet another part time arrangement, Binu Pazhoor, the CEO of Cyberpark, Kozhikode was given the additional charge of Infopark.
A product of REC – Calicut (now NIT – Kozhikode), Gigo comes to Infopark after four years with Infosys Trivandrum as the Group Project Manager. As CEO of Infopark, he will report to the Secretary, Department of IT and the Board of Governors of Infoparks, Kerala. He will be responsible for the administration, management and implementation of various schemes at Infopark Kochi and Koratty and also the upcoming Infoparks at Cherthala and Ambalapuzha. More than two years after the work was started, there has not been much progress on the Infopark at Ambalapuza which is entangled in land acquisition related issues.
