NASSCOM meet showcases Kerala as a key investment hub


Kochi: The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) today organized a get-together of industry leaders and stakeholders to showcase various facets of IT-ITeS in Kerala while celebrating the Nasscom’s Silver Jubilee.

The event was attended by thought leaders from the industry, including enterprise veterans, VCs, Practicing Entrepreneurs, and Consultants, who shared their views on the evolving landscape and the journey of the industry so far.

The NASSCOM Regional Council in Kerala has been working to enable the growth of IT-BPM companies located in the region and establish Kerala as a hub for R&D, innovation and professional services in India. Nasscom has also been working with the State government to shape policies in all key areas of activities such as skill development, trade and business services and further provide platforms for members and other stakeholders to interact, network and grow.

Over 500 software companies have setup operations in Kerala of which 90 percent are from the SME sector. This has resulted in the employment exceeding over 80,000 of which 30 percent are women based in the region. This has led to the total software export revenues from Kerala crossing Rs. 5,200 crore in the year 2012-13, which further increased to around Rs. 7,000 crore in 2013-14.

R Chandrashekhar, President, Nasscom said, “High literacy rate, favourable administrative policies and rapid development of infrastructure has helped Kerala transform its image, and emerge as an important investment hub in India. Over the last few years we have also seen immense steady advancement in the region with the availability of high bandwidth, cost-efficient talent pool, IT parks and increased mobile penetration. To ensure continued growth in the region, the industry, Nasscom and the government are collaborating towards expanding Kerala’s existing pool of relevant talent to harness the benefits of ICT and drive inclusive and balanced growth in this key investment destination for India.”

V K Mathews, Chairman, Nasscom Kerala Regional Council said, “Nasscom’s contribution to Kerala IT is commendable and the three fold increase in the membership base with in the last two years is true testimony to this. The rate of growth of software exports from Kerala is more than double the national average and Nasscom will continue to show the way to keep this momentum going as we enter the digital era”.
