Kannur: State Health Minister Smt. P K Sreemathy launched the ‘Ente Gramam’ web portal at Kannur on January 09, 2010. Ente Gramam is a project conceived by the Kerala State IT Mission and funded by UNESCO in association with Akshaya and SPACE.
With the inauguration of this web portal, 81 grama panchayats, six municipalities and the district panchayat of Kannur are on cyberspace with an interactive web portal in Malayalam. The Minister said that with the launch of this web portal, access to information about the history and heritage of a local body was just a mouse-click away, that too in the local language.
The basic idea of this project is to empower the local community to use the web portal and start contributing to the portal. Each web portal covers detailed information of the Panchayat. History of the land, governance and information on public services are some of the details available. Locally relevant news and announcements will also find its way to the portal. The project is aimed at bringing forth web portals that cater the needs of the citizens locally. In the course of time the portals will be used for local transaction, enabling in it with more business features and this project will be extended to other districts too.
State Devaswom Minister Shri Ramachandran Kadannappally launched the Malayalam online dictionary and Shri P Karunakaran, MP, inaugurated the Malayalam computing curriculum. A P Abdullakutty, MLA, and Rajeevan Chalodan, Project Director, Akshaya were also present on the occasion.
