New York: The Federation of Kerala Associations in North America (FOKANA) is venturing into new activities for bringing the IT professionals from Kerala into their fold. FOKANA has launched an IT initiative called the FOKANA IT Mission (FITM) to spearhead such activities.

The brainchild of Thomas Joseph Thandapral, an IT professional, the FOKANA IT Mission is an effort to tap the hundred thousands of young IT professionals working in the United States and other countries. The idea was timely supported by Paul Karukappillil, the President of FOKANA which is the parent body of Malayalee Associations in US & Canada.

“I am glad that Malayalee IT professionals in North America came forward with such a wonderful and philanthropic initiative with a clear vision and mission to accomplish their commitment to their philosophy – Give something back to our motherland and give something back to our professional domain”, says Paul. “I invite all Malayalee IT professionals to FITM irrespective of your geographical locations and affiliation to groups or associations. As President of FOKANA, I am happy to extend all support from FOKANA, its Executive Committee and affiliated Associations for this initiative”, he added.

In an exclusive to Kerala IT News, Thomas Joseph Thandapral, the Founding Chairman of FITM said, “Paul was unique in propping up young people to come forward and prove their potential. It was his faith in young IT professionals like me that gave me this wonderful opportunity to demonstrate my leadership by launching this program.”

The FOKANA IT Mission is an initiative with a strong vision of bringing together the industry leaders from the three core domains in Information Technology which includes Core Technologists / Engineers, IT Managers & IT Entrepreneurs. “To bridge these three target groups together and pool their talents to make Kerala as the global hub for Information Technology, we intent to provide intra-domain insight, mentor talents internally / laterally and provide channels for growth in respective domains”, says Thomas. This initiative envisions the enrichment of the socio-economic spectrum of Malayalees in Kerala & US.

To meet these objectives FITM plans to organise activities like IT Investors / Entrepreneurs meet, IT Workshops & Seminars, IT Expos / Road shows, Social networking of IT professionals and Career Guidance for early IT professionals on a regular basis. The first such event as part of the FITM Workshop Series, ‘Agile Software development using Scrum’, will be conducted on April 17, 2010 at New York. “We also want to work together with the Kerala IT mission to help the rapid growth of IT industry in Kerala. We want to do programmes to promote IT awareness among common people, especially in rural Kerala”, adds Paul.

The FITM is lead by the President, FOKANA, the FOKANA Executive committee and FOKANA IT Mission Chairman. The other board members are Suresh Kumar Nair as Mission Director, Jiju Nair and Ganesh Nair as Directors and Smitesh Sukumar as Program Manager, all seasoned IT professionals.

FITM hopes to be a global platform for Information Technology Professionals from Kerala to come together, demonstrate, share and enhance their prowess in IT. Isn’t it another chance for us to reinforce the fact that ‘the world is flat’!
