Kalpetta: The Akshaya District project office in Wayanad is organising a Kalajadha at Kalpetta this week to popularize e-literacy and other services of Akshaya Kendras in the district.
As part of the programme, demo of Akshaya services will be held at the Wayanad District Office on April 23, 2010. The Kalajadha will be inaugurated by the Kalpetta Municipal Chairperson at the New Bus stand in Kalpetta at 10 am on April 24, 2010.
Talking to Kerala IT News, the Akshaya District Coordinator of Wayanad said that the Akshaya Kendras are doing a fabulous job of taking the benefit of IT to the masses and programmes like these would help in bringing about more awareness among people so that even more people can avail these services.
Over 2000 Akshaya e-kendras (Customer Service Centers) are now functioning in all the 14 districts in Kerala and citizens can pay for a range of utilities like Telephone bills, Water bills, Elecrticity bills and Universrity fees. The monthly Akshaya e Pay collection is about Rs.3.85 crores from about 1.12 Lakhs transactions.
Akshaya is an innovative project implemented by the State Government aimed at bridging the digital divide to address the issues of ICT access, basic skill sets and availability of relevant content. Some of the services through Akshaya kendras are e-literacy, a program that imparts basic training that not only familiarizes people with the basics and the scope of IT, but also ensures hands-on-skill in operating a computer, using the Internet etc to one person from one family; e-ticketing (Railway Ticket Booking); e-Filing of tax returns by traders of Kerala for Sales Tax Department and e-Krishi, a market driven IT enabled agricultural initiative.
