Tvm: A three week long IT Awareness Mela for Children started in the premises of the Jawahar Bala Bhavan in Trivandrum today. The basic idea of this mela is to make the children aware of the tremendous potential of IT while being secure.
The IT Awareness Mela for Children was inaugurated by Ch. Nagaraju IPS, DCP (L&O), Thiruvananthapuram City who asked the children to make the best use of computers under the guidance of their parents and teachers. He also stressed on the point that children shouldn’t do anything that will make them ashamed.
Dr. Rethan Kelkar IAS, Director, Kerala State IT Mission said the idea of organising such a mela during the summer vacation was to catch the children young. “Learning the does and don’ts of using computers and mobiles will go a long way in imbibing the positive aspects of IT and becoming IT savvy”, he added.
Korath V Mathew, Director, Akshaya asked the students to use IT enabled services to save time, energy and money. He also told the children to help their parents use more IT services.
Later some of the participating children inaugurated the various stalls that have been put by different agencies to popularise IT enabled services, IT education and Free Software while imparting safety norms to the children. A Malayalam Computing CD was also launched on the occasion.
Organised by the Kerala State IT Mission in association with Akshaya, C-DIT and the Hi-Tech Cell of Kerala Police, the IT Mela will conclude on May 15, 2010.
