Trivandrum: Kerala Chief Minister, Shri V S Achuthanandan launched Kerala biggest IT project, Technocity at Pallipuram, on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram city today. The project, on completion, would provide 1,00,000 IT / ITeS jobs directly and generate about 4,00,000 indirect jobs.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister said that Technocity is a gift to the people on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the LDF Government. Technocity is a milestone in the development of IT in Kerala. Apart from IT, the project would focus on new areas like BT, Nanotechnology and R&D for high-end manufacturing.
Presenting a report on Technocity, Dr. Ajay Kumar IAS, Principal Secretary (IT) said, “Technocity would see an investment of Rs.6000 to Rs.7000 crores over a period of five to eight years. About Rs.313 crores have been spent to acquire about 450 acres of land in the Andurkonam and Manglapuram panchayats in Trivandrum District, 5 kms north of the Technopark main campus on the NH 47 towards Kollam.”
The project was planned in 2006 as an integrated township, encompassing IT / ITeS infrastructure, residential apartments, shopping malls, hospitals, hotels, educational institutions, and other support facilities. Technocity, Kerala IT’s dream project is planned as a self-dependent satellite city that would not strain the resources and infrastructure of Trivandrum city. The entire project will be developed through multiple Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) in association with leading developers.
