Tvm: India should have embraced WiMax over 3G to have a giant leap in Telecommunications. This was stated by C S Rao, WiMAX Country Head, Intel and also the Chairman of WiMAX Forum while deliberating in seminar on ‘Green Kerala – Smart Kerala’ held in Trivandrum on June 08, 2010.
In his key note address, C S Rao said that India should have jumped onto the cheaper and IEEE standards based 4G rather than going for a proprietary and costly technology like 3G. Laptops, net books and smart phones embedded with WiMAX access device would offer cheap and unlimited possibilities for the use of IT and IT enabled services in the future after the nationwide deployment of WiMAX.
P G Nirmal ITS, DGM (Plg. & Inst.), BSNL spoke about the WiMAX initiatives at BSNL. BSNL is the first Telecom Company to launch WiMAX service in India. In fact the national debut was done in Kochi. The session on WiMAX was chaired by G Vijayaraghavan, former CEO of Technopark.
The second session on eWaste Management saw Premjith K from MAIT talking about the eWaste lifecycle while making the participants aware of their responsibilities are responsible citizens. Ajaykumar Varma, ED, Suchitwa Mission spoke about eWast policy requirements. The session was chaired by Dr. Achuth Sankar, Director – Centre for Bioinformatics
Earlier in the day, the seminar was inaugurated by T K Manoj Kumar IAS, Secretary to CM and also Governing Council Member, Technopark. The one day seminar was jointly organised by the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT), Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment and Kerala State IT Mission as part of the National Technology Day 2010 celebrations.
