Tvm: Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the Embassy of France in India will present Sam Smala, a funky world music band from France on June 23, 2010 at Trivandrum.
Sam Smala is an African word for ‘family’ and this family of five musicians who play their own songs are inspired by jazz, gypsy jazz and world music. Samuel Strouk (Guitar), Guillaume Marin (Bass), Quentin Braine (Drums), Mathias Levy (Violin & Guitar) and Serena Fisseau (Singer) are the members of this band which takes you from Havana to Paris, from New York to Istanbul without pretention and with an extraordinary ‘joie de vivre’. They have been playing together for ten years before the creation of the band Sam Smala. They are all great jazzmen who have studied in some of the greatest music schools in the world, the Conservatory of Paris and the New York‘s Drummers collective. The band represents a new French generation of jazz and song musicians.
Sam Smala will be performing in Trivandrum as part of their first ever South Asia Tour. They are currently working on the band’s first album which will be released at the end of 2010. Enty is free for this concert at the Tagore Theatre.
