KISSAN Kerala online video channel big hit among farmers

Tvm: KISSAN Kerala online agri video channel, the first cobranded Internet video channel on agriculture launched by the Karshaka Information Systems Services And Networking (KISSAN) Kerala project has become a major attraction for the farmers across Kerala and beyond. This channel was implemented as part of the farmer centric e-governance project by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Kerala.

The KISSAN Kerala online video project is conceptualised, designed and developed by the Technopark based Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala. IIITM-K has implemented this project with the technical collaboration with Google India. Since its launch, the channel is getting wide acceptance from the farming community. During the last several months, the channel has received more than 687,373 user views and downloads with several hundreds of channel subscribers.

Currently the channel holds about 40 full-length telecast quality Malayalam videos on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and allied sectors. The videos on crop management, pest and disease management, success stories, best practices, technical know-how etc is presented in a very informative manner. This becomes a single window access to all the agriculture and allied topics for continuous learning for the farmers at free of cost.

According to YouTube Insights and Google Analytics, these videos are getting huge hits from the countries like Asia, USA, Africa, Europe, Middle East and South America. Most of these videos in the channel gets high user rating and channel comments.

KISSAN Kerala, a multi-modal ICT enabled Agricultural information System in the state has been providing several useful information and advisory services for the farmers during the last 7 years. The KISSAN Kerala Operations Centre is based out of IIITM-K in Thiruvananthapuram and the project is managed by the team of professionals from Agriculture, IT and Agri Journalism.
