Kochi all set to host c0c0n

Kochi: Kochi is all set to host c0c0n (pronounced cocoon), an International Information Security and Hacking conference organised annually as part of the Information Security Day, later this week. The Matriux Security Community along with the Information Security Research Association is organising this two 2 day conference from August 05, 2010.

According to Manu Zacharia, Director, Millennium IT Consultants and Event Coordinator, “The event is bringing some of the best security professionals and hackers in the region, ensuring that the conference stays always on the leading edge of new security trends as they evolve. Cochin being one of the fast growing IT hubs in the world, the c0c0n conference will play a decisive role in positioning Cochin in the world Information Security map.”

c0c0n, which was previously known as Cyber Safe was founded in 2006 as part of the Information Security Day (ISD) campaign. The concept of ISD was started to spread the awareness on information security issues and aims to reduce the risk associated with the information systems by increasing the awareness of user community. The ISD is observed annually on the first Thursday of August every year.

A series of technical, non-technical, legal and community activities will be organised as part of c0c0n 2010. There will be 24 sessions on four different knowledge domains – Information Security – Technical & Management Streams, Forensics and Investigations Stream, and Legal Stream. Interesting sessions on Information Warfare by various Defence units are also planned as part of the two day event.

Apart from the regular sessions, various other activities like the Capture the Flag – CTF (Pre-con), CTF-Live Con, Poster Competition and Hack the Code are also planned. The pre-conference Capture the Flag is designed and hosted by Roberto S Soares (a.k.a. espreto) all the way from Brazil. The CTF-Live Con is designed and organised by the null open security community.

The organisers hope that in the coming years, c0c0n will evolve as one of the most prestigious and powerful security and hacking conference in the region, serving as a launching platform for various security research projects and initiatives.
