Technopark Techie among Nokia ‘Make My App’ winners

Tvm: Dileep Devapal, a techie with the Technopark based UST Global is one of the 11 winners of the Nokia ‘Make my App’ idea contest. The final 13 winning ideas were chosen from 90 which was shortlisted from more than 6000 ideas submitted for the contest. All the winning ideas will be made into real apps at the Nokia World 2010 event to be held in London on September 14 – 15, 2010.

Dileep’s winning idea is a Document Creator & Manager app that can utilise the macro mode of the excellent 12MP camera of the forthcoming Nokia N8 to take optimised photos of a document and convert it into a Word / PDF document which can be saved on the phone. The operation should be done on phone instead of uploading images to a third party server. The app should also be able to manage these documents. This would certainly help reduce the carbon footprint and reduce the need for printing documents for reference. He had submitted it under the ‘Think Green’ category.

The winners will receive a brand new Nokia N8 with their app installed when the Nokia N8 hits the market. The winning apps will also be made available in Ovi Store for others to download. The Nokia N8 is expected to be available during the third quarter of 2010.

Talking to Kerala IT News, Dileep said “I had actually entered about 10 ideas in the competition, of which two made it to the shortlist of 90 through the initial user voting and the ‘Document Creator & Manager’ idea finally got selected by the judges. I am part of the Mobile Innovation team at UST Global and working on mobile applications for the UST Innovation Lab has certainly helped me in this. I have been using a Nokia N82 for the last 3 years and most of my ideas were based on what features I wanted on my phone.” He is looking forward to visiting London and meeting the developers at Nokia.

Nokia will provide professional developers at the Nokia World 2010 event who will turn these winning ideas into real apps within 24 hours. The contest was held from April 27 to June 27, 2010. To know more about the other winning ideas, check out the Nokia Make My App page.
