Tvm: Sounds crazy but the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has decided to limit the timings of its online booking facility from 10 pm to 9 am. The heavy traffic for online reservation has been given as the reason for this decision. This is one move that will turn away prospective costumers as people without an Internet connection at home will be at a disadvantage.
The online booking system was designed and developed by Kran Consulting, a Trivandrum based IT services company and the system integration is provided by Keltron. The inability of the online system to handle heavy traffic does put a question mark on the capability of Kran Consulting and Keltron. The KSRTC website has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons. During the Onam season, the website was hacked though the online booking was not affected.
The online booking facility of KSRTC, ‘Saarathi’, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan on November 18, 2009. Till date, about 2.8 lakh people have used this online facility to book tickets, especially long distance journeys. It was of great benefit to IT professionals, especially those who go regularly to their hometown on weekends. But this new timings will cause a lot of inconvenience. Many readers of the KSRTC Blog feel that that this decision would help the private long distance bus operators and maybe, they are behind this move to sabotage the system.
