Tvm: Today, Monday September 20, 2010 saw the Train No. 2697 Chennai – Trivandrum weekly superfast express stop at Kazhakuttom railway station for the first time and going by the figures, the response has been very good and encouraging. Talking to Kerala IT News, Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark said, “We had as many as 25 passengers (Technopark employees) alighting at Kazhakuttom today when 2697 made its maiden stop here.

Indian Railways had earlier issued formal orders for stoppage of Train No. 2697 Chennai – Trivandrum weekly superfast express at Kazhakuttom with effect from September 20, 2010. The train leaving Chennai Central at 1515 hrs on Sundays will arrive at Kazhakuttom at 0555 hrs on Mondays. This station is in walking distance from Technopark.

Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark said, “Since the stoppage has been granted on an experimental basis for 6 months and further continuance will be based on the patronage, I request all using it to make the booking to Kazhakuttom (Station code KZK) and not to Trivandrum (Station code TVC). Railways have also assured stoppage for the UP pair train too (leaving TVC on Friday evening) based on patronage for down train.” In a mail to all the CEOs in Technopark, Mervin has asked them to inform all their staff to make use of this service and book their tickets to KZK.

Talking to Kerala IT News, Binu Sankar, CEO of the Group of Technology Companies in Kerala (GTech) said, “This is a welcome development but there is a need for drastic improvement of basic facilities at Kazhakuttom Station and we need more trains to stop here on a daily basis.” About 2,500-3,000 professionals from Technopark use Kazhakuttom Station on Friday evenings to board the one and only Express train that stops here now – Vanchinad Express. There is a demand for stoppage of the Ernakulam Intercity Express also, at least on Fridays.

The stoppage of trains would be very beneficial to those who commute from places like Varkala and Kollam daily. This would take a good amount of road traffic from the congested and pathetic NH.
