Amritapuri to host BarCamp Kerala 9

Kollam: The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Campus at Amritapuri near Kollam would see a convergence of techies, students and geeks on November 14, 2010 as the campus gets ready to host the 9th edition of BarCamp Kerala (BCK9). Barcamps are an ad-hoc gathering where attendees meet for discussions, demos and networking.

BarCamp Kerala is a technology-focused, informal gathering of people from technical and business backgrounds, where information and experiences are exchanged. The event is geared towards sharing knowledge and learning from others, and there is a policy of encouraging active participation in all discussions.

According to Kenney Jacob, one of the founding members of the BarCamp culture in Kerala, “It is the biggest platform for freelancers, professionals and students to come together and interact on anything technology in Kerala”. BarCamp is simply an ‘un-conference’, a gathering of people with the simple desire to share and learn in an open environment. Unlike a conference, at a BarCamp everyone is both a speaker and a participant.

Binny V A, one of the frequent attendees of the BarCampKerala says, “It is a wonderful opportunity to meet link minded personalities in the tech scene and I find it very open and sharing as a community which will be helpful for every tech enthusiast in Kerala”. BarCamps are free and open events where volunteers organise and the venue is usually provided by a sponsor and so is the other goodies and essentials like Wi-Fi.

140 technology enthusiasts have already registered for BCK9. The previous edition, BCK 8, was conducted at MACFAST, Thiruvalla on March 28, 2010 with more than 150 attendees. For registration and other details, please visit the BarCampKerala website.
