Kannur: With the formal inauguration of the e-District project today by the Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan at Kannur, the District along with Palakkad would become first couple of Districts in Kerala to roll out the Central Government’s National e-Governance Programme (NeGP).
The e-District programme envisages the availability of various Government to Citizen (G2C) services online or through a single window at a place near to the people. Akshaya centres, Friends counters and e-District websites are the designated avenues for availing the services.
Talking to Kerala IT News, Korath Mathew, Director, Akshaya said, “With at least two Akshaya e-Seva Kendras (Common Service Centres) in each Panchayat, we are ready to serve the people at their doorsteps. The Akshaya Entrepreneurs are instrumental in this roll out.”
In the initial phase, 23 services of the Revenue Department will be made available to the citizens. They can apply and get various Certificates from the Department through this service. The NeGP aims at minimising the Citizens – Government direct contact through offices. In Kerala, the e-District programme is being implemented through the IT Department.
According to Dr. Ajay Kumar, Principal Secretary (IT), “The target is to make some 40 services available through Akshaya’s Customer Service Centres across Kerala. Necessary policy changes will be made to enable the over 2,000 Akshaya CSCs to offer new and better services and this would enable the speedy rollout of the e-District programme in other Districts effectively.”
