Kochi: An International seminar on Cyberspace Usages – Challenges and Dispute Resolution, focusing on the legal challenges thrown open by cyberspace will be held in Kochi on February 19 & 20, 2011. The seminar is being jointly organised by UIA India Chapter and the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), an association of business and commercial lawyers based in Tokyo.
The Seminar will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Law & Justice, Shri M Veerappa Moily and will be chaired by eminent judges from the Supreme Court of India. According to the organisers, the seminar is the first of its kind being organised in Kerala dealing with cyber issues that affects the day to day lives of every individual and the society as whole. Particular emphasis is given to ways to cope up with the legal challenges and dispute resolution approaches on a national, regional and international perspective. Speakers of international repute will be discussing diverse topics pertaining to Cyberspace and Dispute resolution.
From the point of view of the IT sector, the seminar assumes great significance, especially in the contemporary international context. The seminar will have the effect of showcasing the IT sector of Kerala before the International community. Most of the international delegates are the best minds operating in the international arena.
The most significant session, apart from the technical sessions dealing with the challenges posed by the Cyberspace Usage will be the session dealing with Alternative Dispute Resolution. This session contains presentations on issues arising when Arbitration and Negotiation are used as Dispute Resolution mechanism outside the traditional Court litigation, which is supposed to be cumbersome and time consuming. The seminar also deals with the jurisdictional issues on cyberspace usage, like the place where a matter will be decided, in case of international disputes. Formation of e-contracts and disputes likely to arise thereon is also dealt with.
