Tvm: Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the Embassy of France in India is organising ‘The Sacred Grove – Trees of Vrindavan’, an exhibition of creative expressions of Textile artist and Designer, Medha Bhatt Ganguly from August 20 to September 03, 2011. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Dr. George Onakkoor at the Art Gallery in Alliance Française de Trivandrum.
The inauguration will be followed by a presentation by the artist herself, who would go through the process of her art, her inspiration, her experiences with rural crafts and stories that gave birth to her creations. One essential feature of her works is the reuse of fabric and paper discards that send an aesthetic message of concern for our environment.
The exhibition features cloth hangings and collages depicting trees of Vrindavan patterned from fabric and paper discards using techniques of applique, embroidery and embellishment. This collection of Textile Art is inspired from music, paintings and literary works related to the myth of Krishna.
Medha Bhatt Ganguly, an alumnus of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, is a textile designer, craft researcher and field practitioner. She has worked with NGOs and government agencies in upliftment of the artisans and their indigenous crafts. In 2009, she conceived her own label, ‘the forest floor’ that aims at reusing waste as a valuable resource for creating innovative and aesthetically rich handmade products.
