Dubai: The second Project Monitoring Committee meeting of the SmartCity Kochi project, which was held today in Dubai, reviewed the progress of the project so far and set the timeline for the first year’s activities and allotted the required funds for the same. The work on SmartCity Pavilion, which will showcase the various advanced technological advancement of SmartCity and the offices for the Administrative and Project Management team, will begin on September 29, 2011 as per the deadlines set with the Kerala Government.
The meeting, held under the Chairmanship of Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, Member of Supreme Fiscal Committee of Dubai Government, was attended by Abdul Latheef Al Mulla, Vice Chairman, SmartCity & Group CEO, Tecom; Adnan Chilwan, Deputy CEO, Dubai Islamic Bank; Suresh Kumar, CEO, Emirates NBD; M A Yusuf Ali, Industrialist and Dr. Baju George, MD, SmartCity Kochi.
After the meeting, Abdul Latheef AlMulla said, “As per our project plan, the work on Head Quarter building will commence of November 19 and rest of the work will be implemented in a time bound manner. The decisions taken today are very important and will further boost the effective implementation of the project in a mutually beneficial manner”. Taking into consideration the importance of the project and need for speedy decisions, the committee also decided to induct Kerala Chief Minister, Shri Oommen Chandy as a Special Invitee to the SmartCity Kochi Board along with State Ports & Excise Minister, Shri K Babu and M A Yusuf Ali.
Meanwhile, the CM also confirmed in Thiruvananthapuram that the work on the much delayed project will begin by September end, “Yes, things are moving fast and work would begin next month according to our time frame that we have drawn up when they were here after we took over. All the hitches are over and it is going to be on the fast track”.
